The American chestnut was a keystone species in the forests of the Appalachian Range until a blight fungus from Asia decimated the population. Join members of the American Chestnut Foundation for a presentation that explains why the American chestnut was so important to the area and the steps that the foundation is taking in its efforts to restore this iconic tree to the eastern forests.
This event is organized in partnership with The Woodbury Shade Tree & Sidewalk Committee. The Woodbury Shade Tree & Sidewalk Committee supports the community by planting trees in public spaces, educating residents about trees and their care, and advocating for improved pedestrian walkways.
The talk is open to all but registration is requested.

George Lopez’s illustrious and multi-faceted career encompasses television, film, stand-up comedy, and late-night television. Lopez has broken ground for Latino comics by embracing his ethnicity, confronting racial stereotypes, and fighting for his community on and off the stage.
Lopez stars in his multi-camera comedy series for NBC, Lopez vs Lopez, featuring his real-life daughter, Mayan Lopez. The family sitcom, which has been renewed for its second season, follows George and Mayan in a fictionalized version of their real-life father-daughter relationship, exploring dysfunction, reconnection, and all the pain and joy in between.
Lopez can be seen in Snoop Dogg’s Amazon MGM sports comedy, The Underdoggs, and in the independent holiday comedy How the Gringo Stole Christmas, directed by Angel Gracia. Lopez joined the DC Extended Universe last summer, starring in the Warner Bros. Latin superhero film, Blue Beetle. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and featuring a predominantly Latino cast, the film follows its first ever Mexican American teenager turned superhero.
In 2005, Time named him one of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America and the Harris Poll named him one of the Top Ten Favorite Television Personalities. The following year, Lopez received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The show is recommended for ages 18 and up.

The Tony and Grammy-winning Best Musical that is a worldwide sensation!
Declared “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history” by the Washington Post, DEAR EVAN HANSEN is the first musical to take a groundbreaking look — from the point of view of both the parents and young people — at our complex, interconnected, and social media-filled lives.
Evan Hansen is a high school student who always feels like he’s on the outside looking in. Evan finally gets what so many of us are searching for—the chance to finally fit in. What follows is a poignant, funny, and powerful musical about how even though it can be hard, we can find each other — and ourselves — along the way.
Including some of the most iconic musical theatre songs from the last decade, including “You Will Be Found,” “Waving Through A Window,” and “For Forever,” DEAR EVAN HANSEN features an uplifting score by the Tony®, Grammy®, and Oscar® winning team behind The Greatest Showman and La La Land, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, and a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson.
This show is recommended for ages 12 and up and contains adult themes, including discussions of suicide.

Bob Sagendorf, a seasoned broadcaster both locally (14-NVR in Naugatuck, CT) and in New York City (WCBS -FM radio), was a major part of the team that created and launched the ESPN Radio Sports Network.
Bob was well known as a consummate professional both in front of and behind the microphone, with a commanding baritone voice. He remained in the broadcast world as both News and Sports Director for WATR radio in Waterbury until the unthinkable happened: Bob received a diagnosis of a rare benign brain tumor in a never-before-seen location. The remediation of that tumor, while successful, led to a loss of voice and 90 percent of hearing. Bob had to relearn how to speak, then went on to defeat stage 3 prostate cancer.
He chose to turn his devastating experiences — not only his own medical problems, but also the neurodivergent diagnosis of his beloved granddaughter Maggie — into a blessing. Bob and his wife Jan committed to raising and training a Rough-Coat Collie, Mollie, to be a therapy dog for autistic children and children with cancer. Bob’s story is a 2ND ACT that says a resounding yes to using one’s time along with newly discovered talents and resources to make a difference despite challenges!

Join us for an exciting night of beautiful music and fond memories, as we celebrate 20 years of Broadway musicals at the Palace Theater!
Together with a roster of Broadway performers (including Andrea McArdle, Broadway's original "Annie!"), the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, conducted by five-time Emmy Award-winning producer & director Andrew Carl Wilk, will perform favorite selections from shows that have graced our stage since our reopening in 2004.
Commemorating our score in years (20) with excerpts from the musical scores enjoyed over the years in our historic venue, Broadway Scores will be an evening of entertainment, inspiration, and celebration.
In addition to favorite musical numbers from shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, Evita, and Dreamgirls, the show will feature the beloved classics “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (The Wizard of Oz), “Memory” (Cats), and “Tomorrow” (Annie). Featured performers include Debbie Gravitte, Jess LeProtto, Andrea McArdle, Soara-Joye Ross, Antoine L. Smith, Allison Strong, Gene Taylor, and Donna Vivino.
Andrew Carl Wilk is the Conductor & Executive Producer of this evening’s performance. Most recently, Wilk served as executive producer of Live From Lincoln Center, where he created a variety of award-winning musical and theatrical productions for PBS. It will be directed by Annette Jolles, and Gerard Chiusano will provide additional arrangements and orchestrations.
A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit the Palace Theater and WSO Education programs.

Born in the diverse and vibrant nation of the USA, where every opportunity felt endless on one hand and yet impossible to grasp on the other, Luis Reyes has had “the privilege of living what all immigrant parents dream of for their children, and that is paving the pathway to freedom.”
His journey was uniquely shaped by the fact both of his parents were immigrants. As he was growing up, his understanding of “feeling safe” evolved beyond its dictionary definition — in addition to the challenges and triumphs of his immigrant heritage, he also faced the personal obstacle of hearing loss at an early age. While he learned to deal with this condition, he did not let him define him. Instead, it became a catalyst for personal growth and inner strength.
He transcended the challenges of being a minority, growing up in poverty, and having a hearing disability to become the first in his family to attend college, graduating with a Physical Therapist Assistant degree. He learned to embrace his unique perspective on the world and found new ways to connect with others, drawing on empathy, resilience, and the power of self-preservation to overcome adversity. Luis joined the Peak Physical Therapy team on Chase Ave in Waterbury in 2023.

One Vision of Queen is an explosive, attention-commanding tribute where some of the most iconic rock anthems of all time collide with a theatrical performance style and eye-popping production.
At its core, the riveting show focuses on the extremely diverse body of the band’s greatest hits, from the grandiose “Bohemian Rhapsody” to the adrenaline-pumping “We Will Rock You,” the euphoric “We Are The Champions,” the funky “Another One Bites The Dust,” the stadium-shaking David Bowie collaboration “Under Pressure,” the soulful “Somebody To Love” and the swinging “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” (to name but a few from the steroid-stacked set list).
In addition to the obligatory but nonetheless consistently astounding selections, One Vision Of Queen also incorporates an entirely unique angle that will have die-hards and casual appreciators alike clamoring to hear several other sides of Martel. “Near the end of Freddie’s life, he explored other styles of music beyond rock, including opera, so with that in mind, the show also includes a segment of familiar songs in the flavor of what they might have sounded like had Freddie ever gotten the chance to sing them,” Martel explains. “For instance, I perform ‘Ave Maria’ by myself on piano and also the great opera aria ‘Nessun Dorma’ in the style of Freddie, so it gives the night some imaginative elements in the spirit of Queen, rather than strictly the letter of Queen. You could call it a greatest hits show with a twist where I get to explore other things that I wish Freddie could have recorded himself and wonder what could have been.”
Marc Martel was one of the vocalists for the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody along with Freddie Mercury and Rami Malek. He has played in over 40 countries and his videos have over 250 million views. Even legendary Queen drummer Roger Taylor remarked to the Daily Record: “That voice. You listen, close your eyes and you think it’s Freddie. It’s really uncanny.”
