This presentation by Marc Chabot, Flanders Curator of Van Vleck Collections will take place on Saturday, February 15 at 7 pm in early modernist artist Natalie Van Vleck in the Studio she built in the 1920s out of antique lumber, located at 5 Church Hill Road, Woodbury, CT. Natalie Van Vleck's art evolved rapidly over her career as she experimented with a number of approaches, including Cubism.
Mr. Chabot's talks bring Natalie alive through his extensive research and knowledge of her art, education and mentors. The lecture will cover the works in the concurrent show "Bringing Natalie Home" and how they trace the arc of Natalie Van Vleck’s contributions to early American Modernist Art of the 1920s and early 1930s. Her decision to stop painting in 1934 will also be examined, along with Flanders Art Committee’s plans going forward to make our collections of her art and archives available to a national audience of art historians, educators, artists, and the
curious public who wish to see and learn about the Art, Life and Legacy of Flanders’ amazing founder.
The talk is $11 for Flanders members, and $16 non-members. Registration is requested at 203-263-3711 or at https://flandersnaturecenter.org/programs&events
