Children's Storytime: "Mya Mclure, The Brave Science Girl"
Douglas Haddad is an award-winning teacher, best-selling author, and speaker, specializing in tween and teen development. Join us for storytime as he reads his book Mya McLure, the Brave Science Girl: The Toad Cave.
Mya McLure, the Brave Science Girl: The Toad Cave focuses on female empowerment and inspiring innovation in science, technology, engineering, creative arts, and mathematics. In this children's picture book (ages 3–7), Mya McLure must figure out a way to save a family of toads threatened by land development.
Haddad has taught over 3,000 students in his 25 years as an educator, working with children from all different backgrounds and abilities, helping them navigate the challenges of adolescence. He was recognized as the 2016–2017 Simsbury, CT Teacher of the Year and 2017 state finalist. He also served as a Teacher-Ambassador for Public Education in CT.
Haddad also wrote The Ultimate Guide to Raising Teens and Tweens: Strategies for Unlocking Your Child’s Full Potential and also wrote and directed the award-winning short film Butterfield, which targets specific themes associated with tween and teen life, including bullying, anxiety, and depression. Haddad has published hundreds of pieces in parenting magazines, websites, and blogs. He makes frequent television appearances and speaks on podcasts, at seminars, conferences, libraries, and summits on topics such as education, parenting, and healthy living.
