Description

Who really makes history? Join authors Andy Piascik and Steve Thornton as they talk about their book  Radical Connecticut: People’s History in the Constitution State at the Woodbury Public Library. They’ll share the stories of everyday people and well-known figures whose work has often been obscured, denigrated, or dismissed. Learn about many of the movements, strikes, popular organizations and people in Connecticut who changed the state and the country for the better.

Unlike a traditional history that focuses on the actions of politicians, generals, and business moguls,  Radical Connecticut  is about workers, the poor, people of color, women, artists and others who engaged in the never-ending struggle for justice and freedom.

Bridgeport native Andy Piascik is an award-winning author who writes for many publications and websites. He is the author of three books the most recent of which, the novel  In Motion , was published earlier this year by Sunshine Publishing.

Steve Thornton retired in 2013 as a union organizer in Connecticut. He has been a labor educator, tenant organizer, and anti-racist activist. He has helped build coalitions for economic and social justice across the country, in Europe and the West Indies. Steve conducts walking tours and has spoken at picket lines, breweries, universities, town halls, and with people living on the streets. He is the author of four books and writes for the Shoeleather History Project.com which promotes “history from below.”
