Join local author Terry Iten as she shares the story of fascinating story of her grandparents, Wolfgang and Anna. The pair arrived in America with hope and fortitude, grabbing every opportunity open to them, and soon fell in love. Their commitment was tested by heartache, loss, economic devastation and prejudice. Their resilience rescued them from despair as their bond deepened. Wolfgang and Anna is not only an immigrant love story, but a courageous journey of joy and survival.

Terry Iten grew up in Ukiah, California. She received her bachelor’s degree in music from UCLA and completed a year of graduate study in voice at the University of Southern California before moving to New York City. After ten years of performing in regional theater and on Broadway, she moved to Connecticut with her husband, John Kildahl, and their daughters. She discovered her passion for writing after retirement. The impact of her grandparents was central to her life and she was drawn to discovering and writing about their journey. Osher Lifetime Learning Institute at the U-CONN Waterbury, CT campus offered a writing course entitled, Write Your Own Story. From that, her first novel was born.

NYC and LA organist/pianist, Brian Charette, has established himself as a leading voice in modern jazz. Born in Meriden, Connecticut in 1972, Brian was introduced to music by his mother, Catherine. By the age of 17, he was playing with jazz luminaries such as Lou Donaldson and Houston Person. Brian is a staple of the downtown NYC scene working with virtually everyone who plays with an organist.

​

He is a Hammond U.S.A, Hammond Europe, I.K Multimedia, and Casio endorsed, Cellar Live recording artist. Charette is also a prolific composer of large ensemble music, penning and performing compositions with The Jazz Dock Orchestra in Prague and The Modern Art Orchestra in Budapest. Brian has performed with many notable artists such as Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Oz Noy, Vinnie Colaiuta, John Patitucci, and many more.

Balancing swelling sounds with jazz, folk, and pop melodies in an unforgettable display of unique virtuosity, Bird celebrates the 20th anniversary of his acclaimed record The Mysterious Production of Eggs. Featuring a top-to-bottom album performance with orchestral arrangements, Bird caps off the performance with a suite of fan-favorite tunes from his nearly 30-year repertoire.

Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Andrew Bird has released 18 albums and performed extensively across the globe, headlining concerts at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and festivals worldwide. Bird has been a featured TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest, and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times. He performed as the Whistling Caruso in Disney's The Muppets and scored the FX Series Baskets.  Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart.

​

To date, her albums have garnered two Grammy® Awards, ten Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable artists of our time. As The New York Times recently noted Krall possesses, “A voice at once cool and sultry, wielded with a rhythmic sophistication”

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, which is outside of Vancouver, Krall grew up in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was performing jazz locally and with the encouragement of her father, a stride pianist with a vast knowledge of such Twenties and Thirties keyboard masters as Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, and Earl Hines, she devoted herself to music. "I think Dad had every recording Fats Waller ever made," she says, "and I tried to learn as many as I could."

​

Diana Krall’s recordings have been included in several film soundtracks, and she has expanded upon her role as a performer to include songwriting, producing and arranging and has brought her talents to collaborate with many other artists including Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, and Tony Bennett.
